Karae Shuler (they/them) is a queer, neurodivergent designer who enjoys exploring a variety of mediums: from analogue collaging to digital illustration. With an interest in escapism, they hope to use their creativity to immerse others into fictional worlds and stories. Karae’s quirky dog, Spock, is a significant source of joy in their life – lively howls, affectionate snuggles, and all. No matter where life takes them, Karae is guaranteed to bring a sense of playfulness and imagination wherever they go. My amazing partner, Dallas
My design work explores identity, childhood, and fantasy, inviting viewers to step outside the boundaries of everyday reality. I’ve always been drawn to stories, video games, movies, and books—anything offering a window into other worlds. Life is difficult, and escaping into a different narrative provides comfort from the challenges in our internal and external worlds. This is why my approach invites playfulness: to connect with others who find solace in wonder and curiosity.
A large part of my process involves observing how people express themselves to understand what makes them tick. I pay close attention to how my peers infuse their unique touch into their work, which inspires me to do the same. I’m drawn to unconventional design—styles that break the mold and resonate with those seeking something unexpected. I view standard design principles as a foundation, using them as a starting point to create work that is bold and impactful. I hope my designs inspire imagination and offer moments of relief, creating spaces that allow others to dream and feel seen.
